Center brick, also known as king brick, is a refractory brick installed on the ingot-mold bottom plate directly beneath the central downspout.
It channels the molten steel flowing through the central sprue into multiple branches so that the metal is evenly distributed to each ingot mold.
To minimize temperature loss of the molten steel during flow, king bricks are typically made of high-quality fireclay.
