Sleeve brick is a hollow refractory tube fitted over the stopper-rod metal core. Its function is to protect the metal rod from direct contact with high-temperature molten steel and slag, while maintaining the rigidity of the stopper rod for accurate flow control.
This brick is made of alumino-silicate material, with a refractoriness up to 1750 °C, a load softening temperature of 1400 °C, apparent porosity of ≤22%, and a cold crushing strength of ≥30 MPa. The manufacturing process emphasizes smooth inner surfaces and precise outer geometry to ensure tight joints and prevent steel leakage.
Sleeve bricks are suitable for ingot-bottom channels as well as for pouring stainless steel and alloy steel, and are commonly used in combination with ladle lining bricks and other refractories.
