Common High Alumina Brick

MAGSCIE BRAND: HA

Introduction

High alumina brick (HA) is a type of aluminosilicate refractory with Al2O3 content higher than 48%. This term mainly distinguishes high alumina bricks from bricks made predominantly of clay or other aluminosilicates. The alumina content of those bricks is less than 48%. High alumina bricks are formed and calcined from raw materials with high alumina content, such as bauxite or other materials.

Propoties

• The refractoriness of high alumina bricks is above 1770 ℃. It is higher than that of fireclay brick and semi-silica brick.

• HA have a higher content of Al2O3, which makes them close to neutral refractory materials. So it can resist the erosion of acidic and alkaline slag. However, due to the presence of SiO2, its ability to resist alkaline slag is weaker than that of acid resistant slag. With the increase of Al2O3 content and the decrease of impurities in it, its slag resistance will be enhanced.

• HA also have advantages such as high load softening temperature, good thermal shock resistance, resistance to peeling, and corrosion resistance.

The classify of High Alumina Brick

High-alumina brick are classified by their alumina content according to ASTM convention. The 50%, 60%, 70% and 80% alumina classes contain their respective alumina contents with an allowable range of plus or minus 2.5% from the respective nominal values. The 85% and 90% alumina classes differ in that their allowable range is plus or minus 2% from nominal.

Applications

High alumina bricks are widely used in metallurgical equipments such as steelmaking electric furnaces, ironmaking blast furnaces, hot blast furnaces, and industries such as non-ferrous smelting, chemical engineering, and cement.
