Stopper head brick

Stopper head brick (choke plug brick) is the core component of the stopper-rod system. It sits at the lower end of the stopper rod and mates with the nozzle (taphole) brick, and is a refractory used in metallurgical smelting. When not pouring, it seals the nozzle to prevent molten steel leakage. During pouring, the stopper rod is raised to create a gap between the stopper-head brick and the nozzle brick, allowing molten steel to flow out of the nozzle. By adjusting the stopper-rod height, the outflow rate of molten metal can be regulated.

The stopper-head brick can be fixed to the rod core using threads or pins. According to the connection method, this part is classified as either pin-type (plug/pin) or threaded-type.
