The production process of refractories

Depending on the compactness and shape of products, the production process methods of refractories mainly include sintering, melting casting, melting injection and non-burning.

Ⅰ. Sintering process

The sintering method requires pre-burning, crushing and screening of some raw materials. Then mix it with raw meal according to a certain proportion. Finally, it is formed, dried and fired. The purpose of raw material pre-burning is to burn off the water, organic impurities and sulfate-decomposed gases. This can reduce the burning shrinkage of products. So as to ensure the accuracy of the overall dimension of the product. Raw materials need to be screened after crushing and grinding. Because the billets are graded by powder with different particle sizes, it can be ensured that they can be stacked most closely to obtain dense bad body.

In order to homogenize the composition and particles of various raw meal and clinker, mixing is required. At the same time, the binder is added to enhance the binding strength of the bad material. For example, aluminosilicate bad material is added with bonded clay, magnesia bad material is added with sulfite pulp waste liquid, and siliceous bad material is added with lime milk. According to the water content of the bad material, semi-dry molding (about 5% water content), plastic molding (about 15% water content) and grouting molding (about 40% water content) can be used. Then dry and burn.

Ⅱ. Melting casting 

The melting and casting method requires raw materials to go through such processes as proportioning, mixing and fine grinding. Then melt at high temperature and cast directly. Finally, it is cooled, crystallized and annealed into products. Such as fused mullite brick, corundum brick and magnesia brick. Their green bodies are compact, with high mechanical strength, high structural strength at high temperature and good slag resistance. Their scope of use is constantly expanding.

Ⅲ. Melt injection

Melt injection method is a method to melt ingredients and spray them with high-pressure air or superheated steam to disperse them into fibers or hollow spheres. Products are mainly used as light fire-resistant and heat-insulating materials. In addition, it can also be made into powdery or granular amorphous refractory materials, which can be used directly without molding and sintering by selling oil, asphalt, cement, phosphate, sulfate or chloride and other binders when used.

Ⅳ. Non-firing 

Non-burning method is a kind of production and preparation process of amorphous refractories that does not need to be fired completely and has low energy consumption since the 20th century. Non-fired refractory materials are formed by using granular and powder refractory raw materials and appropriate binders without firing.
